“I chose Hunter Schafer because when coming to grips with my identity as a trans woman I had a lot of fear that I wouldn’t be happy post transition and her infectiously happy personality, as well as her amazing work on Euphoria not only showed me that happiness was possible but so was success as a publically out trans woman. This may seem like a strange analogy but it made sense to me at the time. I kinda saw transitioning as jumping off a cliff without knowing how deep the fall is, or if there’s a crash mat or water or something to break my fall. All I knew was that it was going to take a tremendous amount of faith to jump. I unfortunately had a lot of past internalized transphobia, as well as negative influences, that made me think it might go poorly, and that jumping off the cliff would just lead to my death. Instead of that it was like a short fall onto a bed of pillows. I’m happier than I’ve ever been, actually happy, I have a great support structure, a found family, and I finally feel like myself.” -Kate C.
