My prompt for this commission was “Medusa with gummy worm hair” and my client wanted to be surprised with the finished product. Usually, I send update photos to all my clients while I’m creating and keeping this one a secret was extremely tough! After receiving the prompt, I instantly knew the type of color palette I wanted to go with; cotton candy. Since Medusa comes from Greek mythology, I painted her in a white robe dress with gold jewelry. The gold arm cuff has the head of a snake and her skin was painted green to emphasize her being a creature of Greek mythology instead of a goddess. The story of Medusa states that she was turned into a monster by Athena after having an affair with Poseidon. She was one of the three gorgon sisters, all of which had venomous snakes for hair and could turn anyone who looked them in the eyes to stone. The other two sisters were named Stheno and Euryale.
